Training On First-Aid

Comprehensive first-aid training session was conducted by Dr. A.K. Surve, an esteemed MD with expertise in Emergency Medical Services from Ruby Hall Clinic, on September 20, 2023. The event was organized collaboratively by Sushrut (Health & Wellness) and the School of Pharmacy under the guidance of Prof. Sonali Manwatkar. The training aimed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge in providing immediate medical assistance in emergency situations. The session covered fundamental concepts of first-aid, including assessment of emergency situations and the application of appropriate interventions. Practical demonstrations allowed participants to gain hands-on experience in administering basic first-aid techniques, such as CPR, wound care, and handling various medical emergencies. Dr. A.K. Surve provided insights into the importance of quick and effective response in emergencies, emphasizing the role of first-aid in stabilizing patients before professional medical assistance arrives. Approximately 35 students took advantage of this valuable learning opportunity. The diverse group of participants included students fromthe School of Pharmacy, all of whom were eager to enhance their understanding of first-aid principles and practices. Feedback from participants indicated a high level of satisfaction with the training session. Many expressed increased confidences in their ability to respond effectively in emergency situations. The impact of the training was evident as participants demonstrated improved skills and knowledge in first-aid practices.

National Nutrition Week 2023

The Nutrition Week Celebration, held from September 4th to 7th, 2023, at Vishwakarma University, was a commendable initiative aimed at promoting health and wellness among students. The primary activity during this celebration was the Body Mass Index (BMI) calculation, organized by the Student Welfare - Student Council Sushrut (Health & Wellness) team under the guidance of Prof. Sonali Manwatkar. The main objective of the BMI calculation activity was to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and to provide students with valuable insights into their body composition. Approximately 80 students actively participated in the BMI calculation activity. This substantial turnout indicated a keen interest among the student community in understanding and improving their health. The Nutrition Week Celebration successfully achieved its objectives, fostering a culture of health consciousness among the student community. Many participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gain insights into their health and appreciated the efforts of the organizing team. Feedback from the participants indicated a high level of satisfaction with the event. Many students found the BMI calculation activity eye-opening and expressed a willingness to incorporate healthier habits into their daily lives.

Sushrut (Health & Wellness Forum)

Sushrut Health & Wellness Forum by student welfare and School of Pharmacy, VU. The name & Sushrut" holds great significance. In ancient Indian tradition, Sushrut, an ancient physician and surgeon, played a pivotal role in laying the foundation of the medical science of Ayurveda. He emphasized the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit, an ideology that resonates deeply with our forum's core values.
Our aim with the Sushrut Health & Wellness Forum is to create a dynamic platform that fosters a holistic approach to health and wellness. We believe that true well-being encompasses not only physical health but also mental, emotional, and spiritual harmony. The forum will act as a catalyst for promoting and spreading awareness about the importance of these interconnected aspects of health. We envision a community where individuals can find resources, guidance, and support in their pursuit of a balanced and fulfilling life. Through seminars, workshops, expert talks, and interactive sessions, we will address a wide array of topics, from nutrition and exercise to mindfulness and stress management. We also plan to facilitate partnerships with healthcare professionals, nutritionists, fitness experts, and mental health specialists, aiming to provide our members with expert advice and insights tailored to their unique needs. Our forum is not just an organization; it is a family, a support system, and a source of motivation. Together, we can encourage each other to adopt healthier lifestyles, make informed choices, and ultimately lead a life brimming with vitality and purpose.
Sushrut team members who have poured their heart and soul into our activities under the mentorship of Prof. Sonali Manwatkar (Student welfare officer of health and wellness) & Dr. Priyanka Gokhale. The team members are: Mr. Abhijit Das as a secretary, Miss. Siddhi Chandage as co-secretary, Miss. Vaishnavi Chakkarwar & Miss. Harsha Sharma as ambassadors and other volunteers will be known as VishwaMitra.

Health Screening

The health screening event aimed to provide comprehensive health assessments to both teaching and non-teaching staff members of VU. It aimed to promote wellness, early detection of health issues, and provide necessary guidance for maintaining optimal health. Event conducted by Prof. Sonali Manwatkar on Friday, 28th April 2023, at Building No. 02, VU Campus, from 11:30 AM to 02:30 PM. The event witnessed active participation from both teaching and non-teaching staff members of VU. A significant number (around 80) of individuals availed themselves of the opportunity to undergo health screenings and consultations. The tests that were conducted are as follows: Blood Pressure, Haemoglobin, Blood Sugar & BMI. Based on the results of the aforementioned test, preliminary clinical state was described, along with the specific precautions that must be taken on a daily basis, additionally instructed for a balanced, healthy way of living. Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to undergo health screenings conveniently on campus. Many found the consultations and educational sessions informative and valuable. The event received positive feedback overall, indicating a need and interest in future health-related initiatives.

World Health Day 2023

"Health for all" is the WHO's theme for World Health Day in 2023. To honour everyone'sright to good health, Vishwakarma University's School of Pharmacy and National Service Schem observed World Health Day by giving back to the community. Students from the School of pharmacy and faculty organized a health camp in Mordari and Malwadi of Pune. The tests that were conducted on the residents are as follows: Blood Pressure, Haemoglobin, Blood Sugar, BMI. Based on the results of the aforementioned test, the resident's preliminary clinical state was described, along with the specific precautions that must be taken on a daily basis. additionally instructed for a balanced, healthy way of living. Activity conducted on 13 th April 2023, at Mordari Village and Malwadi Village, Pune, coordinated by Prof. Sonali Manwatkar & Prof. Priyanka Karpe.

International Women’s Day 2023

The "Reproductive Health of Females" session was organized to commemorate International Women's Day 2023, with a focus on promoting awareness and understanding of crucial issues related to female reproductive health. The event was jointly organized by the School of Pharmacy and the Department of Law on 09th March 2023, coordinated by Prof. Sonali Manwatkar & Prof. Unmesha Patil. Dr. Supriya Puranik, the Director of IVF, Obstetrics & Gynecology at Sahyadri Hospital Ltd., graced the occasion as the Keynote Speaker. Dr. Puranik's extensive experience and expertise provided valuable insights into advancements in reproductive health, particularly focusing on the well-being of women. Dr. Tanaya P Kamlakar, Coordinator at the Centre for Women, Child Rights, and Gender Justice at Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai, served as the Guest Speaker. Dr. Kamlakar shared legal and societal perspectives on reproductive health and highlighted the importance of comprehensive laws and policies that safeguard the rights of women and children.
In conclusion, The session on the "Reproductive Health of Females" was a significant and enlightening event that underscored the importance of addressing and improving the overall reproductive health of women. The collaboration between the School of Pharmacy and the Department of Law showcased the multidimensional approach needed to comprehensively address the various aspects of female reproductive health. The insights and knowledge shared by Dr. Supriya Puranik and Dr. Tanaya P Kamlakar proved invaluable in fostering a greater understanding of reproductive health challenges and opportunities. Awareness Session on Breast & Cervical cancer

On May 2, 2022, the School of Pharmacy at Vishwakarma University in Pune organized an awareness session on breast and cervical cancer. The session aimed to create awareness about these cancers, educate individuals on primary self-inspection, emphasize care, and shed light on the treatment’s available post-diagnosis. The awareness session commenced with an introduction to the significance of understanding breast and cervical cancers. Dr. Prerana Kulkarni, a renowned expert in Gynecology & Obstetrics from Nag Foundation, elucidated the importance of early detection and regular screenings in combating these cancers effectively. Dr. Kulkarni provided insights into breast cancer, stressing the need for regular self-examinations, mammograms, and clinical check-ups. She emphasized the importance of early detection and its impact on successful treatment outcomes. Understanding cervical cancer was elucidated, focusing on risk factors, symptoms, and the role of regular screenings such as Pap smears. Dr. Kulkarni also emphasized HPV vaccination as a preventive measure. Ms. Rebecca DeSouza, a Psycho-oncologist from Nag Foundation, shed light on the psychological challenges faced by individuals diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer. She discussed coping mechanisms and the importance of mental health support during the cancer journey.
In the conclusion, The awareness session on breast and cervical cancer organised by Prof. Sonali Manwatkar, proved to be informative and impactful. The insights provided by the expert speakers, Dr. Prerana Kulkarni and Ms. Rebecca DeSouza, highlighted the significance of early detection, proper care, and psychological support in the battle against breast and cervical cancers.Participants left the session equipped with knowledge to perform self-inspections, seek timely medical attention, and understand the psychological aspects associated with these cancers. It was a significant step toward spreading awareness and empowering individuals to prioritize their health in the fight against these prevalent cancers.

International Women’s Day-2022

We, School of Pharmacy, celebrated International Women’s Day-2022 at Mamata Bal Sadan for destitute orphans and Nirmal Seva Mahila Vrudhashram on 08 th March 2022, Tuesday. The theme for International Women Day is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. To celebrate the day of womanism we had selected “Mamata Bal Sadan” orphanage, Saswad, Pune & Nirmal Seva Mahila Vrudhashram, Hadapsar, Pune. Both the places were full of women energy and positivity. Mamata Bal sadan gave the lesson of girls without parents and Nirmal seva mahila Vrudhashram parents without children touched to heart in depth. At the end realise both the extremities need love and care.
Following activities are executed by School of Pharmacy, Vishwakarma university:

  1. Social awareness, adolescent girls education, hygiene management and distribution of hygiene material kit at Mamata Bal Sadan orphanage Saswad, Pune.

  2. A free health check-up for old-age women will be conducted at Nirmal Seva Mahila Vrudhashram, Hadapsar, Pune

Activities was leads by Prof. Sonali Manwatkar, Prof. Shweta Ghodke, and other faculties also contributed for the smooth conduct of the activities. Feedback received for the both the activities was excellent.

World Pharmacists Day 2022

We, VU School of Pharmacy, Celebrated World Pharmacists Day 2022, on Friday, 23rd September, 2022. We organized an expert session on “Pharmacy- United in Action for a Healthier World”, to aware students about the role of pharmacists in the healthcare profession and to encourage them for efficient healthcare services. The celebration of the day started with a tree-plantation activity, followed by the expert session. Moreover, post-session different competitions were organized for the students. The session was delivered by Dr. Manish Wanjari (Assistant Director, Regional Ayurvedic Research Institute, Pune, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.) Post Session following competitions was organized for the students: Pharmaceutical Detailing Competition, Tech- Pharma Rangoli Competition, Poster Competition, Slogan Competition, Quiz Competition & Health Check-up Camp for VU Staff.
Overall, the celebration was completely enjoyed by students and staff of VU with various activities. Also, with health screening staff of VU benefited. Feedback received was also positive for the actives.

Celebration of International Day of Yoga

On June 21st, 2024, the University celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm. The event attended by 50 faculty, staff and students of the University, all of whom demonstrated a keen interest in this ancient practice.

The event commenced with a comprehensive introduction to Yoga Day by Mrs. Amrita Thakur, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy. Following that, the Yoga Expert / Trainer Mrs. Apoorva Lele, Certified Yoga Teacher and Evaluator by the Ministry of Ayush, was welcomed and introduced to the audience. The program kicked off with warm-up exercises, during which all faculty members actively participated. They guided through various sitting and standing asana, with simultaneous explanations of their significance. The instructors emphasized the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life and maintaining harmony between the body and mind. The session lasted for over an hour, witnessing active participation and engagement from all attendees. The yoga instructors provided detailed explanations of each pose and offered guidance on precautions to taken. Undoubtedly, it proved to be a successful event.

The celebration concluded with a token of appreciation presented to the esteemed guest by Dr. S. Sunitha (Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy). The felicitation acknowledged their valuable presence and support.

Under the supervision of Dr. Chetan Chouhan, Director, Physical Education and Sports along with Coordinators Dr. Yogesh Suryawanshi, Assistant Professor, Department of Yoga & Naturopathy, Mrs. Amrita Thakur, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy and Dr. Kailas Bhosle, NSS Program Coordinator, the International Day of Yoga celebrations reached a triumphant culmination. The event was executed flawlessly, leaving a lasting impact on all participants. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Amrita, expressing gratitude to all individuals who contributed to the success of the program.

The 10th International Day of Yoga at Vishwakarma University was an extraordinary event that brought together academic leaders, faculty members, and yoga enthusiasts. It successfully promoted the practice of yoga and its benefits, while also emphasizing its global significance. The event’s success can be attributed to the meticulous planning, active participation, and the dedication of the organizing team. Vishwakarma University’s commitment to spreading the practice of yoga throughout the country was evident, and it’s anticipated that this celebration will inspire more individuals to embrace yoga in their lives.

7 day Residential Camp for NSS volunteers

National Service Scheme at Vishwakarma University Pune had organized a 7 day Residential Camp for NSS volunteers. 

20 volunteers along with Prof. Dr. Kailas Bhosle (Programme Coordinator, NSS) and Asst. Prof. Siddhi Singh (Programme Officer, NSS), participated in activities spread over 7 days in two villages, Mallavli and Mordari.

A session on basic computer knowledge was also conducted for the residents of the village. Post lunch, a village survey was conducted by students in small groups, covering designated parts of the village. A discussion about the collected responses among students took place. They collectively tried to identify the existing issues faced by the residents of the village. The volunteers interacted with the school going children next. The students were asked about the class they are studying, their favourite subjects, their talents, etc. The students were also taught the special NSS clap.

The Five-Day Workshop on Interview Techniques was held from November 6th to November 10th, 2023. This intensive workshop was designed to enhance the interviewing skills of participants, focusing on both theoretical and practical aspects. It aimed to equip attendees with the necessary tools to conduct effective and insightful interviews across various contexts, including academic research, journalism, human resources, and qualitative data collection.

Objectives
1. Enhance Understanding of Interview Fundamentals:

  • ntroduce participants to different types of interviews (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured).
  • Discuss the significance of interviews in various professional and academic settings.

2. Develop Practical Interview Skills:

  • Provide hands-on training in crafting effective questions.
