Brief description of the activity:
The guest lecture on “Temples of Goa” was delivered by Prof. Oshin Bamb, Assistant Professor at Deccan College of Archaeology, Pune. The session introduced students to the evolution of temple architecture in Goa, emphasizing its religious, cultural, and political significance. Prof. Bamb explained how local geography, climate, and material availability influenced temple design, highlighting the use of laterite stone and adaptation of architectural forms. Historical contexts, including the contributions of the Kadamba dynasty and the impact of Portuguese rule, were discussed. Archaeological evidence from sites such as Chandor and Arvalem caves was presented to trace the transition from rock-cut shrines to structural temples. The lecture enriched first-year architecture students’ understanding of cultural heritage, temple architecture, and conservation challenges.
