Aim/Objective:
- To introduce students to the unique architectural and cultural significance of temples around the Lonar crater.
- To enhance understanding of heritage tourism through the lens of temple architecture and historical narratives.
- To encourage critical thinking about conservation and documentation of lesser-known temple sites in India.
Brief Description:
On 16th July 2025, a guest lecture was organised for Fourth Year B.Arch students under the Virasat Heritage Club for the subject Elective IV: Architectural Tourism. The session was delivered by Mr.Digvijay Patil, a doctoral candidate and researcher at IISER Pune. The lecture provided detailed insights into the architectural styles,iconography, and construction techniques of Lonar temples, discussed the geological formation of the Lonar crater and its influence on temple architecture, and highlighted sustainable heritage tourism practices.
Expected Outcome:
Students gained knowledge of Lonar’s architectural and cultural heritage, understood its relevance in heritage tourism, and developed awareness about the importance of conservation and documentation of lesser-known temple sites.
