The BA (Hons) in Music Programme in association with the Lakshminarayana Global Centre of Excellence is a 3-year unique undergraduate degree programme that prepares students with qualifications that are globally recognised and industry-relevant skill sets.
Students undergo thorough training in Hindustani, Carnatic, Percussion, and Western music with essential Global music inputs throughout the 3-year span of the programme. Helping students further their journey to find their voice and performative taste and style is an integral part of the B.A.Honors Music Programme. The institute provides a blend of varied streams in Indian and Global music, encouraging careers as performers, musicians, and music industry professionals.
The three aspects of the BA Music Programme includes:
Practical Training: The programme is designed to be useful for practical application by the students when they enter the professional music field. As the major chunk of the instruction is centred on the performance and new age musical knowledge, the students would be well equipped to seize the professional opportunities and be ready to handle “on the job” matters with their practical and inclusive knowledge of their subject.
Balanced Curriculum: The programme has a balanced approach towards all the streams of music. Equal emphasis has been given to Hindustani, Carnatic, Percussion and Western music instruction as well as newer realms in music like Audio/Video Engineering, Digital Marketing which are essential tools for a 21st-century musician.
Global Approach: The global approach of the curriculum would enable the students to learn, imbibe and experience Indian and global music in an entirely novel way. This would be essential in grooming students to become performers, musicians, and music industry professionals.
Outcome | On successful completion of BA (Hons) - Music programme at VU, the student will be able to : |
1 | Acquire technical skills requisite for artistic self-expression in at least one major performance area at a level appropriate for the particular music concentration. |
2 | Demonstrate knowledge and skills sufficient to work as a leader and collaborate on matters of musical interpretation. |
3 | Demonstrate sufficient understanding of musical forms, processes, and structures and use them in compositions, performance, analytical, scholarly applications, according to the requisites of their specializations. |
4 | Work on musical problems by combining, as appropriate to the issue, their capabilities in performance; aural, verbal, and visual analysis; composition and improvisation, history and repertory, and technology. |
5 | Display an overall understanding of the repertory in their major performance area and the ability to perform from a cross-section of that repertory. |
6 | Demonstrate growth in artistry, technical skills, collaborative competence and knowledge of repertory through regular ensemble experiences |
7 | Develop the ability to form and defend value judgments about music, and to communicate musical ideas, concepts, and requirements to professionals and laypersons related to the practice of the major field. |
8 | Develop teaching skills, particularly as related to their major area of study |
9 | Explore areas of individual interest related to music in general or to the major. |
Programme is designed by the co-founders of the Lakshminarayana Global Centre of Excellence (LGCE) – Violin Icon Padmabhushan Dr. L Subramaniam and legendary Bollywood playback singer Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam.
